Effectively Working With Your Patient’s Lawyer

In reality, you may have little, if any, contact with your patient’s lawyer other than for the purpose of requesting a copy of your chart from time to time.

Ultimately, in the context of personal injury, there is a synergy between physician and lawyer that can only benefit the patient.  At Flaherty Sloan Hatfield, we share the same objective: to assist your patient in mitigating his or her losses to the fullest extent possible. There is an extension to this obligation: not only must your patient mitigate his or her damages, he or she must be seen to be mitigating his or her damages. Regrettably, fulfilling this obligation can sometimes result, or appear to result, in “overkill”.  If you believe that your patient has reached this level, where no further treatment or intervention is going to affect his or her further medical recovery, then by all means, please let us know.

To the extent that you require it, we are here to help you help your patient.  Please do not hesitate to call. In the event we need your help in helping your patient, we anticipate that you will be receptive to us within the boundaries of your professional obligation to your patient.  It is our hope that the information provided in this section, and elsewhere in these pages, will be of assistance to you.
