Lawrence Hatfield has developed a reputation as one of the most unique personal injury lawyers in Ontario. His practice focuses exclusively on representing plaintiffs who have sustained personal injuries. He has extensive experience in personal injury and insurance litigation which encompasses various personal injury matters including: motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall accidents, long term disability matters, product liability and medical malpractice. He also represents clients who are involved in a dispute with their insurance company for all types of insurance including: auto insurance accident benefits, long term disability, life insurance and property insurance.
Lawrence has been practicing since 2000 in the Hamilton and Southern Ontario area. He has successfully represented his client in trials, mediations, tribunals and appeals at all levels of court in Ontario. Lawrence has also lectured at numerous legal and community events.
Education
Born and raised in Newfoundland, Lawrence obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Memorial University and then attended the University of Windsor Law School where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws in 1999. He was called to the bar in Ontario in 2000 and the Bar in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2005.

Lawrence continues to be active in the legal community and is a member of: the Hamilton Law Association, Hamilton Lawyers Club, and Hamilton Medical Legal Society.
Community
Lawrence is extensively involved in the community. His community service was highlighted by the awarding of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold award for community service. Lawrence was a big brother with big brothers for over 6 years. He volunteers his time for the Ontario Legal Aid Committee and he is also a former member of the Ontario Provincial Police Auxiliary.
Service in the Canadian Forces – Operational Tour in Afghanistan
Outside of the practice of law, “Major” Lawrence Hatfield has served our country as a Canadian Forces reservist since 1989. Currently he is the deputy commanding officer with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada.
In over 20 years of military service he has served across Canada in several military units. His military career started as combat engineer in his native St John’s Newfoundland. He left the engineers as a Sergeant to commission as a military police officer when he moved to Windsor Ontario to attend the University of Windsor Law School. In Windsor he later served as an infantry officer in the Essex and Kent Scottish which included deployment to the Eastern Ontario Ice Storm. When he started his legal career in Hamilton he joined his current regiment the Argylls.
His major military interests are devoted to training his Hamilton soldiers which routinely deploy to Afghanistan. He was recognized as an innovator in army reserve training when he received the Canadian Army Commander commendation for the development of an urban warfare training system specifically designed for training reservists in their local areas.
Military service has enabled him to achieve many skills, including urban warfare instructor, demolitions instructor, Nuclear Biological Chemical Warfare instructor, paratrooper, heavy equipment operator and engineer reconnaissance specialist.
In 2006 and 2007 Major Hatfield deployed to Afghanistan to work as a mentor for the Afghan National Army. For his efforts in developing a training system for the Afghan Army he was awarded the Task Force Afghanistan Commander’s commendation.
